Deep Bahan Solar rickshaws ready to hit road in Guhwati

In an effort to reduce pollution in the crowded streets of Guhwati, the Rickshaw Bank Project of Centre for Rural Development (CRD), in association with Electroplus, launched a solar-electric rickshaw called the Deep Bahan for the urban transport in early January 2012. CRD director Dr Pradip Kumar Sharma said that Deep Bahan, with its zero carbon footprints and the trend of widespread use, is expected to reverse global warming and protect the planet from the perils of climate change. Kumar also said, "Deep Bahan has the provision of a red coloured tail lamp along with a front lamp. Also, there is provision of light for the passenger. For the passenger's comfort and amusement, there are also provisions of mobile phone charging points along with FM radio. All of these will be run by solar power. The solar plate attached o Deep Bahan will supply electricity to run these facilities.
